BerlinRosen is a fast growing PR firm that has become a campaign issue in the local Assembly race to succeed Joan Millman. Candidate Doug Biviano is working hard to connect all the dots between this firms clients. We ourselves were surprised as we were covering the recent Red Hook Library story when we were directed to call BerlinRosen to get a comment about the Spaceworks program to divide the library. We expected that PR for the Brooklyn Library system would be handled in-house.

We knew that BerlinRosen was involved in the mayors recent campaign, but in fact we are surprised at the vast reach their client base has. Biviano is attempting to say that these cross connections can be the source of a corrupt and anti-democratic power dealing situation – we are not sure about that. However, we do think that an agency that elects candidates should be barred from dealing with elected candidates or government agencies.

A Bloomberg news article recently spoke of Berlin Rosen’s influence:

“The company provides help with public relations, strategic advice, political consulting and advertising. “We specialize in bringing field and media strategy together to help our clients engage, organize and mobilize key constituencies,” according to its website.

Clients include New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver of Manhattan, the top Democratic lawmaker in Albany since 1994; 16 current and aspiring New York City Council members, Greenpeace,Cornell University and several unions. Rosen, 35, and Berlin, 46, said they began giving campaign advice to de Blasio as early as 2010.”

Of interest to our readers is the fact that Berlin Rosen represents real estate developers Two Trees and the Ratner Organization – two huge players in our area.

  1. Berlin Rosen has taken away from us the power of governing decisions in our neighborhoods. They control government agencies like the Brooklyn Public Library and our local elections.

They also lied to us about LICH’s proposed ER emergency care protection in the Gary Reilly Dark Money Letter done by BerlinRosen with deBlasio’s PAC One NY and coordinated with Peter Sikora’s campaign (ILLEGAL TO COORDINATE). When asked repeatedly in debates to apologize for his consultant BerlinRosen lying to voters, Sikora praised both them and deBlasio.

  4. Red Hook Star, do you want to take back your statement, “…these cross connections can be the source of a corrupt and anti-democratic power dealing situation – we are not sure about that.”

In your article, “Pete Sikora receives NYSNA endorsement” you fail to mention that Berlin Rosen represents NYSNA:

Exhibition Review: Anders Knutsson’s  The Ultimate Radical Painting

In his latest exhibition at The Wall Gallery, The Ultimate Radical Painting, Brooklyn-based artist Anders Knutsson invites viewers into a fascinating but unknown art-territory where the painting serves as a bridge between the rational mind and the spiritual. Spanning four decades of work from 1986 to 2026, the exhibition is a masterclass in how you can experience the dual character

Quinn on Books: A Brownsville Fire That Still Burns, “Livonia Chow Mein”

Review of “Livonia Chow Mein,” by Abigail Savitch-Lew Is it true what people say—you can’t go home again? My partner once remarked, “The Germany I left isn’t the same Germany I’d return to.” I’ve never left New York, and I feel just as disoriented. Abigail Savitch-Lew’s debut, “Livonia Chow Mein,” is a novel about belonging. Set in Brownsville, Brooklyn, it

Grella on Jazz: Following Miles

Miles Davis is more than a musician, he’s an icon. The aspects of that shifted through the years and eras of his life, and that continues in his afterlife—his centennial is May 26. The fashion figure has vanished from popular culture since the end of The Gap’s mid-1990s campaign showing Miles (and Jack Kerouac, Steve McQueen, and others) wearing khakis.
